The Bible endorses the death penalty. Leviticus 24:17 in the King James Bible says "And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death."

But the death penalty should only be used for murderers. That sicko who murdered twelve people in a movie theater on July 20, 2012 should have gotten the death penalty. Anne Boleyn, Lady Jane Grey, Marie Antoinette, and Thomas More were not murderers and should not have gotten the death penalty.

It is almost always the case that it is more punishing to keep a psychopath/serial killer locked up to rot in a cell for the rest of their lives than to grant them an easy way out of it with the death penalty, and don't get me started on times where innocent people are killed after being wrongly found guilty. The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) advocates for non-retaliation and loving one's enemies. The Bible endorses the death penalty. Leviticus 24:17 in the King James Bible says "And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death."- by using this logic you could apply it to Onan, who spilt his semen on the ground and was consequently put to death, I doubt you'd agree with this also.
