Fun fact. The 1953 Universal Pictures film "Creature From The Black Lagoon" kept referring to the Devonian age. Then in 1992, Universal released a dog movie called "Beethoven".
(SPOILER WARNING)
In that movie, when the three kids in the movie (Ryce, Emily and Ted) are under the supervision of a babysitter named Devonia. Devonia spends almost all her time playing the piano instead of keeping an eye on the three kids. The youngest of the three, Emily, wanders outside and falls in the backyard swimming pool. She can't swim and calls out for help, and Beethoven gets out of his enclosure and rushes to save her. By the time the other three realize there's a problem, Beethoven has already saved the day. I wonder if that babysitter was named Devonia as a subtle reference to "Creature From The Black Lagoon".
