back in spring of 2022 one of our seniors, who happened to be one of the two varsity team captains and played middle offense, was able to jump a solid foot or two in the air straight up and spike the ball. both of those two were absolutely amazing fellas to be around and i miss them a lot.
the following year, one of our JVA team members (who was a sophomore that year) happened to be able to do basically the same thing, except he made it look almost effortless. he's currently a senior and will graduate this year.
i never got to play either time - i was just helping as a manager and recorded game footage for our Varsity guys. but i wound up as the team hype man in the spring 2023 season and got inspired to go do a volleyball camp in the following summer.
I haven't gone back to volleyball since, but I probably will next spring. I was in two musicals last year so I didn't get the chance, but hey. Might as well end off my journey where it began.
