How is a text-based user interface better than a graphical user interface?

A lot of DOS games aren't text based. You likely played stuff like Doom, Duke Nukem 3D and a few others before.

I played the Disney Software game Coaster using the DOS operating system. Then when Windows came along, I moved on the Disney's Ultimate Ride Coaster Deluxe and the RollerCoaster Tycoon series of games.
