If you're interested in newer macabre, I love Clive Barker's Books of Blood from the 1980s. It's a 6-volume collection of short and shortish stories. And the original book covers have awesome artwork.
Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded volume one and couldn't get beyond first few paragraphs without seeing every parade of the dead going to Hades that has ever been filmed. No new images came to mind. Any other suggestions?
Yeah, I've seen the whole series probably 6 times; I've been a big Frankenstein and Dracula fan since I was a kid. I've recommended Penny Dreadful on my HorrorStream.
I own the series. I've watched it at least 5 times but not more than 7...yet. It's my favorite. I just went through the Horror stream and didn't see any recent posts about the series. Maybe I should make a gif. What about the seance scene? Suggestions?
"And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all."
.
The story was rich with images but too short...yet, I can say I finished a kindle book today! Onto the next!!

EDGAR ALLEN POE; THE BEST TEST TO GIVE A POSSIBLE NEW BOOK IS TO SEE IF THE FIRST FEW SENTENCES DRAW YOU IN AND WON'T LET YOU GO... "THE 'RED DEATH' HAD LONG DEVASTATED THE COUNTRY.
NO PESTILENCE HAD EVER BEEN SO FATAL, OR SO HIDEOUS. BLOOD WAS ITS AVATAR AND ITS SEAL—THE REDNESS AND THE HORROR OF BLOOD."
