Trump was being encouraged to run since the 90s but always turned it down, saying he'd only seriously run if he felt the country needed it. He did try to start a third party in the late 90s-early 2000s but left immediately once David Duke (a KKK leader) joined
Also I hate to break it to you but inflation has existed for decades. It just hit wild extremes in the 2020s. A single dollar in the 50s would be worth almost 20 dollars in 2010. My father was once on a school trip to Disney World (which was an out of state trip) and they funded most of the expenses with only $7. That could never happen now.
