So it's fine for mobile home landlords to jack up the rent of the land their tenants live on, for payday advance loan companies to prey on the poor, for pawn shops to feed on the down-and-out, and for landlords to set their newly listed rental property to whatever price the market will bear, but raising existing rent to market conditions is uniquely shameful? If capitalism had a heart, it would have broken before the civil war. Greed is the soul of our economy, plain and simple. You think gouging is shameful? In the United States of America, that's the most unpatriotic sentiment you could have. And if you really think it's a problem, we're going to need to scrap about 99% of our economic principles to fix it.

If being greedy is shameful, then nigh of this entire country should be ashamed. And nobody wants that. Better to lean into it, embrace it and own it. We are Americans. We earn as much as we can so we can consume as much as we can, and we will suffer nothing to get in the way of that. It's our culture, it's our identity, it's our pride and it's our joy. F**k the environment, f**k the future and f**k anyone who wants to take a single crumb of what is ours. For better or worse, it's the American way.
