I didn't watch the Maury episides with paternity tests or lie detector tests. What I watched were the episodes where girls who dressed in a sexually provocative manner or trying to get pregnant got chewed out by motivational speaker Dwayne West, or the episodes where evil kids got sent to prison or boot camp. These kids intentionally hit their own parents, stole cars, and sold drugs. One even proudly said she tried to poison her mother by putting bleach in her food. But Maury no longer interests me.
Years later, I found that boot camps and "Scared Straight"-style jail/prison experiences don't really make evil kids better behaved, and may actually make them worse than they were to start with. Also, I noticed that it was always mothers bringing their kids to Maury because they were at the end of their rope. Where were the fathers?
Part of me wonders if maybe those kids who were so horribly behaved and their distraught mothers were only pretending just because they wanted to be on TV so badly.
