Finally asked if he was okay. His response floored me.

"Sometimes I forget words now. I'm so used to having ChatGPT complete my thoughts that when it's not there, my brain feels... slower."

He'd been using AI for everything. Writing, thinking, communication. It had become his external brain. And now his internal one was getting weaker.

Made me think about calculators. Remember how teachers said we needed to learn math because "you won't always have a calculator"? They were wrong about that.

But maybe they were right about something deeper.

We're running the first large-scale experiment on human cognition. What happens when an entire generation outsources their thinking?

I also have some concern in that regard. Even something as simple as Google search is concerning as it has become a substitute for memorization. There is no need to retain anything since one can look up most things with the search engine. The end result? The mind becomes lazy and somewhat undisciplined in comparison to previous generations.

Yes... they love being told what to think.

The ruling elite don't care what the peasants want or think.

This is true; but even so they'd definitely prefer to disarm all of their citizens; just in case.

That ship has sailed, most of us can build working firearms with things we already own.

Thanks to freely available Internet information on how to build or construct anything anyone unarmed wants to be unarmed.

Yeah and that's just in English, thanks to the forever war the instructions for everything from a technical fighting vehicle to IED's are online in Arabic. Anyone could follow the pictures and get the idea but google translation would make it easier. The myth of the mighty USA fighting machine was busted when they surrendered to the Taliban. Globally people are waking up to just how weak central governments really are. The anti-gun crowd lost.
