I think it's potentially because as it's being accepted and allowed the softer of us need to make a statement about how it's acceptable in this day and age. While many probably were LGBTQ back before it wasn't allowed they couldn't come out. A movie that does this beautifully is Disney's Jungle Cruise, where a main character acts slightly attracted to another of the same sex. But the movie being set perhaps in the 1920s, he can't show it, so he acts slightly on edge. It can be inferred by the wiser of audiences. In my opinion though media that does this poorly includes Hazbin Hotel, where it's fully advertised as a key point in the show and it becomes obvious. There are more, I just haven't looked.
