Some people don't even want to know how to write because that's not what they plan to do and theres nothing wrong with that.

Also you can only really learn something if you're passionate about what you are writing and most essays they require you to do you are only doing for for a grade... Besides, AI makes for good inspiration, I actually partially used it for a story i'm writing for english... Which I do plan to make a big thing outside of just getting a grade

still it kinda nags me probably because of how many times my classmates used it to cheat to the point it just feels unfair

Also some people just use ai as a crutch because they have too, some aren't and likely never will be as talented or creative as others, ai can help make things fair in those areas, so it can be very useful but it's not to be relied on entirely.

My own school actually has some projects that require ai use, and others that allow it with some restrictions.

But hey that's the problem with all the ai hate in general, stop focusing on the bad stuff people are using it for! It's a tool with many good and bad applications, up to the people how they use it.
