The "founding fathers" crowd are the ones arguing that Hitler was basically a democrat because the Nazis put "socialist" in their official party name. These people look at the Nazis and think "boy, it was really unfortunate that these guys couldn't embrace laissez-faire economics". You think they are made uncomfortable by a little fascism in our national past? They are embracing it.
I can't find the quote, but I think it's from Orwell's 1984, and it's something like, 'And so they betrayed every principal of socialism, in the name of socialism.'
