Heritage of Freedom?
You mean the heritage of WHITE freedom, don't you?
There has NEVER been a heritage of freedom for every American, so stop lying to yourself about history, and stop lying to all of us.
Even the go***mn Founders lacked courage to free the slaves: they let the slaves make all the sacrifices while the MAN enjoyed the bounty. And then, after Black Americans fought in every war this country ever had, the nation repeatedly put them back "in their place" in the caste system of racial animus they have long endured.
You cannot speak to liberty or to freedom when you have spent most of your existence oppressing natives, Blacks, and women.

Why not quote someone from the 21st century? You have to go all the way back to the cusp of the Civil Rights Era to find a quote to pick apart? That's pathetic.

What does Eisenhower have to do with now? NOTHING. Eisenhower was 34th president of the United States, serving from 1953 to 1961

A short timeline of the history of Civil Rights in America:

January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation whereby
"that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free."

1865 circa the end of the Civil War, the 13th Amendment passed, the Abolition of Slavery. Who allowed that to pass? White people.

(150 years ago) February 3, 1870, ratified the 15th Amendment granting African American men the right to vote. Who allowed that to pass? White people.

(over 100 years ago) 1920, the 19th Amendment Ratified granted Women the right to vote. Who passed that? White people (mostly), and men.

Presidents JFK/ L.B. Johnson Title VII of the Civil Rights Act enacted in 1964
President LB Johnson, The Great Society, 1965. Who passed that? Take a guess.

Thurgood Marshall: First Black SCOTUS appointed in 1967 (LBJ)
Clarence Thomas: SCOTUS appointed 1991

All this happened before MLK was assassinated in 1968.

Fast Forward to the 21st Century To Barak Obama the 44th President of the US, the first Black President who served 2 terms (8 years) 2009-2017 who is still wielding his influence today. Who voted him in (twice)? White people as the majority.

Keep on stoking that racism card. It's been working so well lately.
