There is a convenience to shaming. It directs our disappointments at others when we don't want to do that which the healing process requires. Emotional healing is hard work. It takes dedication, courage, and effort. Above all else, it requires looking at one's self. But we have become accustomed to believing we are ugly, stupid monkeys. It's not easy to admit mistakes. It's even more difficult to forgive: it's easier to scream, "Why the hell should I forgive what happened?!" Believe me, the hardest work begins when we have to come to terms with the self inflicted shame of "I deserved it."
