Yup, anything given and not earned is unappreciated. So the occupants turn them into slums, then complain about their horrid living condition.
They should be required to pay something to live there, even if it’s cleaning or simple maintenance.

Used to have to work in them installing, (of all things Pay TV) They were built BEYOND the durability of any public school I had ever seen. Yet gaurds over windows, exit signs, even hand rail that would survive armagedon were torn up to shit.
By the same people with no energy to work the business end of a broom mind you.
When they were finally blown up in the late 90's? (this is Chicago BTW) it was only the rat infestation, and roaches that made them unliveable. The Yuppies wanted to renovate em and make a fortune ?
