Gorgeous work by a gorgeous woman. She never fails to impress me. I, too, drew a picture today, but it almost feels insulting to even mention it under this masterpiece. Such a simple piece, but there's so much going on here. The energy in her jump is so well-captured, as if she's not only practicing a routine, but doing this for fun as well. The motion on her skirt as well as the positioning of her legs mid-jump, is definitely worth taking note of, and it would be so easy to imagine the lightness of the pom-poms and her hair bouncing as part of an animation. The joyous look on her face makes me think she may be reciting a chant. I love how the backdrop, despite utilising the same colours as her uniform, is slightly subdued in order to make our cheery cheerleader stand out. Even when drawing concepts most would easily look past or consider a mundane or juvenile aspect of life, she still manages to hone in on it as if it is something special and capture the essence of everything that makes it unique. Sure, unless you are either a sports fan or in high school, you may not think about or even see cheerleaders all the time, but regardless of that, this artist recognizes that we all share some of the same human experiences and shines light on those vague memories and ideas that lie in the backs of our minds and bring them to the forefront, and not only does she just make you remember, "oh, yeah, cheerleaders," it's almost as if all of her art, even when she draws more macabre characters, is laced with a sense of youthful optimism, highlighting every chosen topic and choosing to focus on the coolest and most interesting parts of it, almost making her audience feel as if it's their first time truly focusing on the topic at hand, even if it's something familiar. She could draw anything you could think of, even something you'd consider boring or anything that one wouldn't think about long enough to even consider making art of, and it'd seem so truly captivating and interesting, as if every subject to her is equally exciting and novel. This is why we should never look down on younger artists. Even if their experiences and interests may be different from our own, anyone with a lick of open-mindedness or common knowledge could, even if for a moment, be capable of imagining the world through her eyes just from seeing her creations, and that is no small feat. Meanwhile, yours truly can't even draw a cat in a bloody hat and make it look decent. I'm in awe, as always.
