Ok but they actually emulate their own games
But sure I get emulators are bad but not bad when that's the only way to play it.
However, they take down fan animations and fangames, which is a total dick move.

I know. Nintendo is overprotective of their IPs. I think that’s because they saw either King Kong or Godzilla (I want to say King Kong) get taken away from someone due to someone else making a movie on it and winning the copyright case, forcing the original owner to give up the IP. What they do is absolutely insane but they see it as protecting their IP. Most of the Nintendo higher ups pretty much know the ins and outs of most legal systems which doesn’t help. Hopefully as time goes on they allow more fan content.

That isnt "not being able to let go of something that happened like 40 years ago" it's just being overprotective for something

Still it would NOT be "not letting go of something happened over 40 years ago" it would be "being overprotective over something happened 40 years ago" you get the point

Yeah because they don’t want their IP’s getting taken away the same way. They’re actually so crazy about it, at one point they actually launched an ad campaign telling people not to call other game consoles from other companies “Nintendos” because of that issue. That’s partially why they’ll investigate other games that are like theirs incase they use similar assets or code. They went after Palworld recently because they’re developing a new game and don’t want Palworld to be too similar to their game, and thus, losing part of the Pokémon IP.

Sega still recognizes its IPs are unique no matter if someone fangames it or not

I was going to say Sega absolutely loves this type of stuff, usually enough to even higher the team. Nintendo has a pessimistic view on things, they think something vaguely copying a function in one of their games is enough for them to lose the IP, and Japan’s laws in the copyright sector are very different than ours so I have no idea what qualifies for a case for them.
