Brainwashing: Followers may be isolated from other people, information sources, and close relationships. They may be indoctrinated through brainwashing or coercive persuasion. Fear of leaving: Followers may believe that leaving the cult will result in horrible consequences. They may also believe that former followers are wrong or evil. Loaded language: The cult may use pretentious terms to sound smarter or holier. Expensive: The cult may be expensive, always wanting donations and/or always selling something, and the cost may go beyond money to include time and relationships. Single charismatic leader: The cult may be based on a single charismatic leader who says he has direct access to God by claiming he is "chosen"; Claims to have definitive answers: The cult may claim to have the definitive answers to life's mysteries.
