Here is the problem with it: if it was designs only, people would be fine with it, mostly. Since Nintendo didn't sue for that but patent mechanics, it becomes so much more complicated

Thing is, Nintendo (and every other game company) NEVER sues for patent infringement. The only reason they file those patents in the first place is to make it impossible for non gaming companies like Disney and Warner bros. to do so. (Remember the nemesis system?) There is clearly MUCH more going on behind the scenes.

Patent infringement. Why is it always patent infringement when it comes to Nintendo's lawsuits? Since they have parts in so many smaller things like Gamefreak and HAL Labs, they're in control of practically every possible mechanic type. And especially with this case, it's genuinely absurd that they chose to sue for patent infringement. I wouldn't be happy as a whole if Palworld got shut down or discontinued because of it, but I'd at least understand if it were for character design.

They don't! Nintendo only sues for copyright infringement. This entire situation is extremely sus to me.

They had really good grounds to win based of stolen assets, like I think some pals were literally recolored pokemon, but they went on patent??? Dumb move for nintendo.

This whole situation is extremely sus. I have a feeling that Nintendo may have discovered something off about Pocketpair and doesn't want them to know that they (Nintendo) know.

Nintendo is going to lead the way to more lawsuits because so many other games have designs based off of other games, but people were fine with it.

There's a lot of misinformation going around about that. Back in the 80s, every game company filed patents for basic game mechanics (Capcom patented character select, SNK patented title screens, etc.) and agreed not to enforce them, sort of like an alliance. They did this to prevent non gaming companies (Disney, Warner Bros., Universal Studios, etc.) from doing it first, screwing the industry as a whole from these features (like the nemesis system). To me, this means only one thing... POCKETPAIR IS SUS!

Damn I didn't know that.
