Actually in my splatoon series it's actually 2001 A.E. which stands for "after extinction" as in after extinction of humans so the first atlanteans (what I call all splatoon characters as a whole) saw the last humans. However, most humans are in space and some like just the last few are hiding among the cephalolings and other creatures on earth
