It’s a grindy mess. It litters the streets with enemies that are borderline unavoidable, but the XP they give is useless. The only XP that really counts is in the battle arena and that doesn’t show up until chapter 12.
Besides Yakuza 0, I don’t remember having this level of grind at all. In fact, Yakuza Kiwami 1 & 2 had some of the best progression systems because battling wasn’t the only way to earn XP.
Now, that’s all you can do in Like a Dragon. I really, REALLY hope they fixed this in Infinite Wealth because my gosh.
I wouldn’t have much of a problem with grind if the gameplay was more fun. I put over 400 hours into Black Ops Cold War zombies for all the gun upgrades. But turn-based fighting isn’t fun enough to warrant grinds of that magnitude.
