No, the Republican Party did not fight to end slavery. The North fought to stop the South from seceding. This included Northern Democrats, who split off from their Southern counterparts during the Election of 1860, when they had their own separate candidate for president.

Lincoln allowed the slave owning Border States to maintain the practice of slavery, as well as any Confederate territory that the Union captured.

Northern Democrats were pro slavery. They passed the Fugitive Slave Act. Only Democrats owned slaves. Only Democrats should pay reparations. 33% of slave owners were black. Do they get reparations?
