Ok, let me explain. When I first saw the movie, I came with the notion it was about a guy whose life was synonymous with Jesus’s, but he’s just a normal guy. I do want to give it credit where credit is due that it is funny at many moments and I thought the over throwing of Rome plot was really interesting. With that out of the way, the plot of the movie at many moments feel like a compilation of Monty Python skits that are only related by era. Some of these moments are funny - the Messiah scene, Brain’s birth, the Roman wall defacement and Latin grammar, and the Bigus Dickus scene - and the bright side of life song was somewhat charming as I wasn’t feeling well mentally when I heard that song and it brightened my day. However, I feel like they’ve could of had more moments of his life being a somehow a less glamorous version Jesus’s life (where he just had a hard life without the whole “Sun of God” thing), develop the revolt against Rome, and make a bigger point that he is part Roman and mention that to his group who are against the Romans. I feel they’ve could’ve done a better job at consistency with what the plot being about and make more short gags than drawn out. Like the people at the one house thinking Brian is the messiah could have been shorter and I thing it would be just as funny and the Passover sparing scene could have been the same. I was coming in thinking it would be a parody movie more than many sketches stitched together. I do want the to say, i thought the movie was funny for what was in it and it had great moments, but it felt like there were long intermissions until they happened.
