in short terms a period is an hour scheduled for a group of students to spend in a particular classroom on a specific subject.

middle school and high school use a system to organize core and extracurricular subjects. periods.
a period is a standard nonflexible hour that is allocated for one subject specifically. typically a small school such as my own has six and a large one has eight.
my schedule for my eighth grade year for example was as follows.
period one- science
period two- concert band
period three- honors choir
period four- history
intermission for lunch, around thirty minutes
period five- honors english
period six- honors algebra

(normally one can only have one extracurricular but year sevens and eighths can have two if they choose choir due to a small loophole the choir teacher found)

I’ve been homeschooled since 2nd grade

so basically, starting in middle school, you get periods, which are basically usually 1 hour long classes that teach a specific subject, and everyone has a unique schedule of which classes they get, and in elementary school, it would be just one class teaching all the subjects
