For a quick rebuttal to the "Guns make you safe" argument | LOSING YOUR GUN COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE | image tagged in guns, safety, death, gun control | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Because it's untrue. More abortions have happened since abortion laws tightened, and having a gun in the house significantly increases your risk of injury or death.

Perhaps, but what about the death or injury ratio of households with guns compared to household without guns, and the ratio of deaths by abortions to deaths and injuries by household firearms?

I'm going to assume that you are a well-intentioned person who has been misinformed, to be bringing up abortion in this context. Start by asking the women you care about how many have had a spontaneous abortion or miscarriage: if you still want to attack women for losing a pregnancy, it's women you have a problem with, not abortion.

Firstly, miscarriage is completely different from abortion. My mother went through a miscarriage, so I kinda know how devastating it can be, and she had thought about abortion for a previous pregnancy, in which she said that just making the phone call was devastating to her. Now, I'm not attacking women for miscarriage, but I do have a problem with women who choose to end their unborn child's life, especially when there are better options. I never objected to abortion when one or both of their live were in danger, should the pregnancy go through to birth, however, I have maintained that if both will live, it is better to give birth to the child, then give it to someone who is both able and willing to take care of it, rather than just murder it

I feel for your mother. Lots of women I know have experienced miscarriage or spontaneous abortion. However, when abortion is stigmatized, women who experience those tragedies also face legal and social consequences. It's already happening here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10262324/

More than that, there's no way that you or I could know all of the details and pressures in someone else's life to make that choice for her, or constrain her from the choice she needs to make for her health, safety or sanity. Better to let each woman be the adult in her own life, and stop punishing them for making already difficult health decisions.

For context from recent history, see: https://scholarship.law.duke.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=3320&context=dlj#:~:text=Despite%20widespread%20allegations%20of%20forced,a%20sporadic%20and%20minimal%20occurrence (about rape and forced pregnancy as a form of genocidal terror)

And what happens in a society when abortion is fully banned: https://www.washingtonpost.com/made-by-history/2022/09/15/romania-exposes-how-abortion-bans-kill-women-rip-society-apart/ The outcomes for women, the children they were forced to have and society as a whole was devastating.

Believe me, abortion is no woman's first choice. We should all be working for reasonable, well-funded family leave, prenatal care, support for pregnant women and families with children, and adequate, affordable pregnancy prevention options and healthcare to reduce the number of women who have to choose it. Oh, and back to the original topic: guns. We can save lives by incentivizing proper gun training and storage, and by supporting our legislators to ban military-style rapid-fire rifles (the right to bear arms doesn't cover tanks and hand grenades after all: why should it allow people to own weapons intended for massacres?) Let's support the people around us and help them to be safe, rather than judging them, which includes educating them about the risks of guns in the home.

Let's never have a Parkland, a Columbine, an Uvalde or a Sandy Hook again.
