Kinda, but not really. When ppl talk about *gender* in *that* specific context, they just mean the social roles that ppl assign to others usually based on their sex.

For example, The two spirit gender is a religious practice that in pre-colonialist times just meant that the person was a good hunter AND a good gatherer.

As less ppl get married or fill the nuclear family gender roles, these "genders" become a lot more abstract and usually are based off of your physical appearance rather than the jobs you do in society.

People confuse sexes with genders.
Sexes are the gender you are assigned at birth. There are only two SEXES, not genders.
Genders(also gender identity) Are just expressing which sex you want to be or are proud of, or are neither
