So the girlfriend and I are on the fireworks committee for our local area. We were put on entertainment along side some friends of ours, which just meant we were singing songs on a tiny stage in front of a couple hundred people before the firework show started. We were singing the 4th of July classics, Party in the USA, Proud to be an American, This Friday Night, plus a couple general pop and hip-hop songs sprinkled in (Shoutout to Jerry for putting Without Me on the playlist and shoutout to Winks for letting me rap it when everyone said he should do it). We were about fifteen minutes away from the show starting and in between songs when I walked across the stage and gave the girlfriend a kiss, nothing too much just a quick peck on the lips between songs. However, I completely forgot that her *homophobic* parents were in the crowd. We just continued singing until the fireworks started. During the whole fireworks show, the girlfriend and I were avoiding her parents like the plague, since we wanted to hang out together obviously and didn't want to confront them and possibly spill the beans that we're a couple. Unfortunately, we couldn't avoid them forever and they eventually found us and started chewing us out, mainly her. Luckily, they didn't seem to think we were a couple. From their perspective, we're just best friends who kiss each other because, again, we're just a couple besties. They were mostly going off saying we shouldn't have done that when we did, that it was "unprofessional." I found out later that the only reason they DIDN'T think we were dating is because my step-dad had talked with them after we kissed on stage and just explained that that's a thing we do as friends. Shoutout to Ronny, you're the best. Anyways, as the girlfriend's parents were chewing her out, I was silently praying she would come out to them, mostly because I don't want to have to hide our relationship from anyone. And, with zero prompting, she did eventually decide to come out to her parents and explain that we were dating. Her parents were obviously fuming, but with a bit of convincing from me, the girlfriend, my mama and step-dad, and a few other people (Again, shoutout to Winks, I love the man he is so helpful in times like these, also again shoutout to Ronny) the girlfriend's parents DID eventually decide to let us stay together and keep seeing each other which is a godsend. I am so glad they're accepting even though they don't like it.
