Take for example Funko Pops. What self-respecting individual would ever buy let alone collect these things? They’re literally just made because idiots who want to be seen as nerds keep buying them, but they‘re not real fans of any of the franchises those are from.
And, since it’s mainstream, people who don’t even like nerd culture join in and try to change it. They try to put politics into everything and ruin what little escapism was once there. They try to defend corporations by saying anti-consumer practices are “good from a business perspective,” and they let companies get away with price gouging and paywalling.
