Imgflip removed the shuffle option

Huh? A shuffle option? When did they have that and why did they remove it? Sorry but I'm someone who joined this site just about a year ago, though I have used this site all the way back in 2021 before and maybe 2020 once too I think.

Well when did they remove it and why?

They removed it late 2023, I think it consumed too much data

Consumed too much data? How exactly? I'm not sure what imgflip runs their servers on (probably one of those massive data centers) but I'm not sure how it could consume so much data that it needed to remove the shuffle button.

It had to scan every image, read the code and pick one using rng, as the years went on, it only got worse for the servers

Dang. I'm pretty sure that I've probably seen that button before but I've definitely never used it before. After all, I don't really go around on the site like that just browsing memes really so.

The ESRB did this to their website many years ago. You used to be able to search for games as to whether or not they had one or more descriptors. Each descriptor had its own checkbox, such as a checkbox for "Comic Mischief". Now their search engine is much more dumbed-down, with broad categories such as "Violence" or "Substances" for searching for games with certain content.
