America should have easily propped up the Afghanistan government to keep the Taliban at bay, easily....American government for whatever reason just wanted that stupid war to go on for 20 years, like they did Vietnam and Iraq. Wreck havoc, cause lots of chaos and leave.....allowing the regime to take over. Same thing happened in Vietnam.
