Microsoft has made it nearly impossible to redeem rewards at this point.
Originally you could redeem them on the website with no problem. Then they started requiring an alias phone number, which is fine. Except you’re not allowed to use your own personal phone… because of course you’re not. My phone number is already associated with a Microsoft account: the one I’m trying to redeem points for.
So the alternative is to redeem points directly on my Xbox. It worked for a while, but then they removed the rewards app and only made it possible to redeem them on your account profile. That wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t say “SOMETHING WENT WRONG” every time you tried to redeem points. You can click “try again” every time, but it will say the same thing no matter what, and there is no way to fix it.
So to redeem the points for this game, I folded. I called my mom so I could use her phone to be an alias for my own account. So it sends her codes that she texts to me, all of which I have to do in a span of 60 seconds because of Microsoft’s timers. That is the only way I’ve gotten the ability to do this. At some point you have to put your foot down and decide it’s not worth it anymore.
That’s not even taking into account how much they’ve nerfed the amount of points you earn. I used to be able to get 500-600 per day. Now I’m lucky to get half of that.
I think Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a high note to leave it on. Thanks for all the free games Microsoft. I’m done.
