School starts for most when you’re four, called preschool (or pre-kindergarten, also called pre-k). Our preschool starts at 8 and ends at 2. They learn the basics like colours, shapes, and numbers up to twenty. You relearn these things in kindergarten, and preschool is optional.
After that is primary, or elementary. Elementary goes on from kindergarten, (5-6 year olds) to “fifth grade” which is 7 years into your school experience. By fifth, you should know basic division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction. You should know how to read and basic grammar, and know the basics of decimals and fractions. Newly required is to take some Spanish lessons too. It doesn’t really count for anything until high school.
I forgot everything I learned except mesa = desk because I thought it was funny
School normally starts at 7:30 and ends at 2:30.
After that, you move on to secondary school. Secondary school is separated in two parts, “middle school” and “high school” (aka hell)
In middle school, it goes from sixth grade to eighth grade. By the end of middle, you should know more advanced math equations, basic world geography, more advanced vocabulary, science terms like photosynthesis, and some life skills (these are called “required electives”) in these years, you go through three different courses. In sixth, you learn basic coding and stem. In seventh, you go to LAFS, or Life Applications For Students (this one was my favourite) and Speech. (This one was my least favourite.) since I left, they decided to make them not required, but optional. Which is dumb because they still call them required electives 😐
School normally lasts from 8:45 to 3:30.
Finally, the last stretch of school. Before college, of course. High school. This goes from grades nine to twelve. I’m not going into too much detail, except you need three math credits, four literature credits, three science credits, two history credits, one fine arts credit, (meaning like speech or drama or debate and stuff) and two language or tech credits. I currently have four fine arts credits, two math credits, one history, and one English. If you go into advanced classes, your middle school credits add towards your high school credits, which is why I have two math credits instead of one. For the four fine arts credits, I have them because drama class counts for fine arts, so I’m well set for graduation by my year.
School starts at 8:30 and gets out at 3:30. 8 hours of pure mental pain
