Gun control isn't prohibition - it's drinking age limits, laws against public intoxication and drunk driving, inspections of the source and quality of alcohol, regulations governing quantities of alcohol in particular types of beverages and when, where, and how those are allowed to be sold.

More importantly it's something we already have and always have - you accept you can't own a nuclear warhead, the rest is just compromise.

yes, but good regulations like "dont have a warcrime" are good, because less people get them even if bad people make them. but with stuff like banning assault rifles, criminals are going to get them, while law abiding citizens do not, so the strict stuff, is a LITTLE, only a little uneeded.

Yes, and when you ban stuff like moonshine, criminals still make it and buy it while law abiding citizens will not. That makes it easier to identify those making hooch that blinds people and prosecute them.

The problem is the absolutism - you can't compromise if you declare topics like guns sacrosanct, so you end up with laws that uninformed and unduly encroach rights on one side, and allow problems to fester to the point they become threats to society itself on the other.

Most people who are ignorant about firearms believe a scary looking black rifle with a pistol grip is an “assault rifle”, and no one with the atf or any CongressCritter has yet to define exactly what constitutes an “assault rifle”.

Any rifle that one uses to assault another person is, by definition, an assault rifle. So, are they telegraphing that their intent is to ban ALL rifles? ALL calibers, even my single shot .22’s or my bolt action deer rifles? I believe that is exactly what their intent is.
