Okay, so I always felt somewhat like Imgflip was becoming a bit of distraction for me (which was I quit for the school year back in September). But it had always just been a tiny thought at the back of my head, nothing serious.
But then something happened today that brought all that up to the surface. I can't really go too into detail because I'm typing on my phone in the car RN. Basically I forgot to do something important because I was so distracted with my computer, and my mom laid it on me and made me feel like a loser.
And I realized then how much Imgflip was actually ruining my life.
It was causing me to spend hours and hours a day on screens. It was making me more anti-social - even by introvert standards. It was destroying the last bits of my innocence I still had left.
But most importantly, I don't think there was ever any payoff for it all.
Online, it always felt like I was a completely different person than I was IRL. Like a separate life. And in that respect, it was basically adding nothing significant to my reality. And especially as I'm working a new job, I just no longer have the time.
So yeah. I'm leaving Imgflip, probably tonight or tomorrow, and I'll be deleting all my OC templates too. Don't worry, I'm not about to commit lightning man or anything. In fact, just the opposite. I'm hoping that removing myself from social media will actually allow me to have a more vibrant, productive life.
I don't plan on leaving forever. But I am leaving indefinitely. I could decide to come back in 10 weeks, or I could decide to come back in 10 years.
