Actually the air in chip packets is to preserve them and make sure that they don't break during transport, even though it makes me incredibly angry that they have an air pocket in there it's just like I have to remind myself it's kind of necessary if I don't want them all to be chip dust by the time they get into my hands

Does the bag have to be 60% air? And does it need to grow steadily as the portions of chips within decrease?

Not to be the smartass but the "air" is actually Nitrogen that is used to keep the chips inside fresh for the months or even YEARS at a time. So its needed A LOT
