Scary Movies Beat Scary Books

just because the last book you read was in grade 3 dosen't mean books can't be scary

I have read many, many books past third grade. One of those books was Carrie by Stephen King. But none of the books I have read have made me jump out of my seat. Several movies I have seen did make me jump out of my seat.

To people who say "Words have power", I would respond with this question: "How much power?"

Many people vastly overestimate the power of words and believe they can talk their way or write their way into or out of anything. They will probably keep on believing that until they find out that they really can't. Some things must be seen to be believed, or to be understood, or to be fully appreciated. For example, lots of people did not believe there were geysers at Yellowstone National Park that shot water hundreds of feet into the air until they saw those geysers for themselves.

Have any of the scary books you read made you jump out of your seat? Is your imagination so powerful that it completely cancels out any desires for external stimuli?

I have nothing against you being a frequent reader. But if there is nothing in your life more enjoyable than reading, then I feel sorry for you. Life is too short to spend most of it doing nothing but reading.

I'm a writer. The whole point is to let the words make you imagine, make you feel. If that's not doing that for you, than either you have a very dull imagination (no offense) or it's frankly not a good book.

I can imagine and I can feel, but my imagination will never be as powerful as the outside world around me.

That being a screen?

I have seen amazing things in my life without screens. I have seen the geysers of Yellowstone National Park. I have been to the meteor crater in Winslow, Arizona. I have taken a boat ride next to Niagra Falls. I have hiked into the Grand Canyon. I have attended the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400 in person. I have rode roller coasters that are over 300 feet tall and travel over 90 miles per hour. I have seen two solar eclipses and the Northern Lights.

I have read many great books and imagined many great things. But what I have imagined pales in comparison to what I have experienced in my life.
