David is a queer, gay, and asexual American pop singer.
At ten years old, he won the children's division of the Utah Talent Competition, leading to other television singing appearances. When he was twelve years old, he became the Junior Vocal Champion on the second season of Star Search, known as "Star Search 2". And then in 2008, he competed in the seventh season of American Idol which he finished in second place. After his American Idol appearance, David has released 8 albums and competed in the ninth season of the masked singer which he also finished second place in.
For many years David struggled with his identity due to his religious beliefs and was previously engaged multiple times to women. In an Instagram post David once wrote "I came out in 2014 as gay to my family. But then I had similar feelings for both genders so maybe a spectrum of bisexual. Then I also have learned I don’t have too much sexual desires and urges as most people 💀which works I guess because I have a commitment to save myself until marriage 🤣. Which people call asexual when they don’t experience sexual urges," More recently in 2022, he came out as queer and then as gay again in 2023. He currently views his relationship with the church as very complicated. At one point, he considered offing himself and believed that would be more easily forgiven by God than him being queer. He has since become more accepting of himself and stopped participating in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
