Adolf Hitler once had a big mustache. But World War 1 was the beginning of chemical warfare, & it got in the way of wearing a gas mask. So he shaved it down into the half-mustache which was popular at the time, worn by celebrities such as Oliver Hardy & Charlie Chaplin.
