Who in their right mind would buy a 10 year old EV? You might get a loan on the car, but how will you pay for a new battery?

That’s only if the EV doesn’t burn up, and the garage with it.

That too!
I’m reminded of a college kid in Florida who bought a used 2014 Ford focus EV in 2021 (or there about) He bought it for $6000. A few months later the battery died. Ford dealership said it would cost $14,000 to replace the battery. The only problem was the car had been discontinued and Ford had no replacement batteries anywhere in stock.

Planned obsolescence to the max

That’s not what that means. Does focus failed because of cost and range anxiety.

So it was discontinued.
Newer models with better range are selling better.
The i4 recently outsold teslas newer models. Both Kia and Honda have been trying to provide better EVs and the Chevy Bolt Esuv has a whopping 260 mile range for less then 40k.

Insurance companies are the biggest hope of ending the EV mandate. They don’t like paying out for a car AND a house when they catch fire.

Keep in mind quite a few of electric scooter batteries caught fire in New York City. A few deaths have resulted.

And parking structures and guardrails aren’t made for the extra weight .

This is actually 1000 percent true but it also applies to larger trucks and suvs.

But i completely agree we needed better guard rails before EVs and need them even more now. And better public transportation in cities.

Should have gotten an i3. European laws require bmw to continue to service the vehicles a minimum of 7 years past being discontinued which didn’t happen until 2 years ago.

A day late and a dollar short.
Does that apply in USA?

Yes. Because the batteries were made in gemrany.

That’s a pHev issue not ev…unless it’s Tesla but honestly screw Teslas. I hate them. Garbage vehicle even if it was ICE.

Its the Plug in hybrids are the most explosive prone namely the Mitsubishi outlander.
But with better range and batteries plug in hybrids aren’t really becoming popular.

Fake news.

“Generally, electric vehicle batteries last 10-20 years, but some factors may reduce their lifespan. For instance, batteries may degrade faster in hotter climates as heat does not pair well with EVs.”

https://www.jdpower.com/cars/shopping-guides/how-long-do-electric-car-batteries-last#:~:text=Generally%2C%20electric%20vehicle%20batteries%20last,not%20pair%20well%20with%20EVs.

Even my crappy 2015 2nd gen Ev is rated for 15 minimum and was one of the few at a time with a modular battery meaning you just replace the bad modules instead of the whole battery. Lowering up front costs and repair times unlike the leaf or spark which was all or nothing.

The rating is based off if a battery can’t charge past 70% capacity which designates it as failing meaning even if it is “failing.” It still has effectively 50% of its max range.

What’s the expected percent capacity of a 20 year old EV battery? Put that in real life terms, not what is calculated at best case scenario,

LOL... they really do believe their propaganda... EVs suck...

Depends on manufacturer and company. Tesla. Dead. BMW probably had 2-4 of the 8 modules replaced. Audi probably had a full replacement.
But average degradation from using even level 3 charging (public fast charging) once a day is about 3% per year.

The only way batteries die super early (unless they’re Tesla.) are typically leaving in the sun at over 80% charge for weeks on end.

Or absolutely bricking it by completely killing the battery over and over again.
Exceptions like first gen and non i3 second gen’s are all or nothing deals. Pretty much everything took a page from bmw and use modular ones now.
