I see your argument. An old lady you stairs in her bedroom. Thugs four of them, two holding pistols, one a knife, the last one seemingly armless. They bust through her back door and process to rush into the kitchen. She had a camera facing her kitchen door. They rush off camera only to run away as a little old lady came down the stair firing off her AR15. Her life was saved that day. There is video online if you care to watch what home defense looks like.

One lady...4 police officers killed.
The question is could the old lady have done the same with a shotgun or a hand gun?
Also why if the thugs would have readily available AR-15s? If I was a thug I would have the best weapons and armor the gun lobby allows me to buy.

As they should. The world is a violent place. Better to have and not used then to have not when needed. That goes for civilians as well as law enforcement. Also learn to shoot before you may need to use it in a dangerous situation.

I disagree in that full auto in a firefight in war is used as suppressive fire, to cover movement.
