False gods are existent, in the form of demons. The worshipers of pagan gods oftentimes unknowingly worship Satan himself.

I agree that I'm not perfect, but I'm striving to be a true Christian right now. And the pharisees were followers of Judaism, not Christianity.

Even John the Baptist exposed the pharisees. He told them that their true father is not Abraham, but Satan. He called them a brood of vipers, deceiving true followers of their religion. And just because somebody claims to have the same religion, that doesn't exactly mean that they are true followers of it. The Bible has many sections about this, just look it up online.
