The 'zine it started it all - for me, anyways.

I had seen (and almost missed, as they were really late as I guess it was a long ride from Arizona and I had no idea who they were, so I almost left) Meat Puppets at a CBGB'S benefit gig for Rat Cage Records which cost a whopping $4 instead of the usual $3 for 3 or 4 bands.

Anyways, I was totally floored by the Meat Puppets show. More like pulverized, really. Suddenly all my Hardcore Punk records didn't sound so loud and fast anymore.

The next week at the Rat Cage Records store, I saw this issue of Take It! which had a flexidisc featuring Meat Puppets, Tex and the Horseheads, and The Flesh Eaters. This steered me into Roots Punk/Country Punk, and my Punk Rock world was forever changed. I bought the Flesh Eaters: A Minute to Pray A Second to Die album the next week. According to Byron Coley, who wrote the article in Take It!, it's the best album ever made. By anyone. Ever.

He's probably right.
