I was born in 2009. My first official console was an XBOX One. Halo: The Master Chief Collection was the only game I had on it at the time. I remember I was playing Pillar of Autumn, looking out at Installation 07 through the canopy window on the Bridge, thinking that I'd never get to be on it.
Then I played the second mission.
When I looked up and saw that ring going all the way around, I thought to myself, "This is beautiful." If only I had known that was the creation of one of my biggest fallbacks to date.
Now, every time I play Halo (the mission), I tear up a bit. In my near limitless knowledge of Halo lore, my second thought is always about the mastery of Forerunner architecture. But my first thought is the fond memory I have of staring up at that ring, and wondering what else Halo had in store for me.
And, safe to say, I was not disappointed.
Thank you for allowing me to remember that moment My brother uninstalled Halo MCC from my XBOX to make room for Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, and if I uninstall one of "his games," he'll just throw a hissy fit until I put things back the way they were, so I haven't gotten to play Halo CE for a while.
