Chapter 5, something old

Last time, we saw our protagonists meet the goddess, Ruby. But let's put hold that story for now m we need to head to how we got here in the first place. Meet a 14 year old Matt Kingman. He was getting ready for a great day.
Matt: where is she...
A tall woman with brown hair passes him.
Aella: honey what's wrong?
Matt: Eren is supposed to be here by now...
Aella: I'm sure shes just with her father...
Her face turns into disgust
Aella: he shouldn't even get to raise a child if he let his wife die.
Matt was about to ask what but Fox and an 14 year old Eren arrive.
Eren: MATT!!!
she cried out happily as she hugged her dear friend.
Fox: hey kid. Ready for the big day?
Matt: big day? Oh you mean the he-
Eren covers his mouth
Eren: not in front of Mrs Kingsman.
Aella just glares at Fox.
Aella: if my son comes back here with a single scratch, I'm going to make sure your life is a living hell
Fox: hey, I've took my daughter and your son on dozens of adventures. And besides... I'm already living in one.
Eren and Matt were talking about the big project they were going to do.
Eren: I can't believe we're actually going to break in!
Matt: eh it's kinda cool...
Eren: come on! You always talk like some zombie! Loosen up a bit!
Fox: she's right you know. Maybe have some fun in your life.
Matt: ...

Later they arrive at the place they were going to rob
Fox: okay here's the plan, I'm gonna go in and entertain the guards. You two go and find this knife with a red blade.
Matt: ...ok.
Eren: this is going to be so fun!!!
And thus the plan was set in action. Fox, being fox, pretended to be friendly with everyone inside while Eren and Matt went around the back.
Matt: ...who even are those guys...
Eren: not sure... My dad just told me they were bad people.
Matt: ...
They later find a shed and with some quick thinking (Eren just shot it) they opened the door. Inside was the red bladed knife.
Matt: alright, now let's get outta here-
Eren: MATT NO-
The minute Matt touched the knife, an alarm sounded, alerting the men fox was trying to distract
Matt: ...darn
Eren: CRAP CRAP CRAP!
She tried to find a place to hide behind the various boxes while Matt just tried to process his surroundings.
Matt: ...
Eren: MATT HURRY AND HIDE!
but it was too late. A group of men walked into the shed.
Man: hehe... Look what we got here. Two kids tried to steal OUR artifact?
Matt: ... yeah? What about it
He replied emotionlessly as ever. The men laugh as they pick him up by the throat.
Men: gentlemen, here's a quick demonstration of what happens when you get cut by this knife...
Eren watched in horror as the man held the red bladed knife towards Matt's throat. And right in her very eyes, Matt Kingsman's throat was slit

His body fell to the floor with a thud. Not a single movement. not a single pulse. the man smile as they get ready to leave. but then... laughter. The men turn around as they see Matt limping
one of the men: I thought that knife just kill people instantly...
The leader: It's probably just delayed-
He was interrupted by the sound of Matt plunging his fist right through his chest. his hands covered in black coating that surrounds his body. after letting go of his body, he tosses him aside and walks towards the other men.
Matt?: go ahead. run. make it fun.
And so they did, the being formerly known as Matt rushes at the men, grabbing one mans head and dragging him across the concrete pavement. despite all the killing, the being never stopped laughing. When it was over, the place was covered in blood. Eren was the only one spared. not out of goodwill, but because he wanted to ruin them while they're young. And then... Fox arrived
Fox: Jesus what happened here?
Fox stares at the red haired figure and then towards a crying Eren.
Fox: Eren what happened-
Eren: Matt- Matt is-
Eren couldn't process it. She couldn't face it. her best friend is now some monster she couldn't even recognise. But Fox? He just looked up at the man
Fox: So you're Ares?
Matt?: What...? I wasn't aware I was so popular in the modern era...
Fox: ...
Ares: But yes, I am Ares. and this Vessel... it's perfect. thank you for bringing him to me-
Fox: 5 minutes.
Ares: hm?
Fox: I only need 5 minutes to beat you.
Ares smirk. this mortal needs to know his place. But then... Fox pulls out his trump card.
Fox: Laura?
He pulls out a golden orb
Fox: Come on out.
A golden fox spirit comes out of the orb and stand by Fox.
Ares: I see... you're one of HIS servants. You don't think you can actually use that cheap copy to defeat-
He blinks and Fox is gone. Fox is now behind him as Laura flanks him from behind. It wasn't an easy fight, but Fox knows exactly how to stop this.
Fox: alright kid. come on out.

Ares suddenly feels dizzy. it's like something in his body is trying to break free... then he heard a voice
Matt: Hey can I have my body back? it's not yours.
Ares: How are you still awake...?
Ares turned around into a black void to see Matt standing there.
Matt: Just give it back
Ares: What in the- Who are you?
Matt: I'm Matt. and you are?
Ares: Don't you know a face when you see one? I'm the god of war, Ares!
Matt: yeah yeah whatever. Listen you can't have my body
ares: alright fine... how about this? You can get full control over your body and I'll bring you back to life. however, You can give me control for 30 minutes. but during those 30 minutes, I can do whatever I want and you can't take over until the time is up. also, if you die, I get to have your body without
Matt thinks about it long and hard. if he does this, he'll come back to life but now he has a vengeful god in him. and the fact that if he dies, Ares is allowed to do whatever he wants
Matt: No way am I doing any of that!
Ares sighs as he comes up with one more deal
Ares: alright, if you beat me in a fight, I will bring you back absolutely restrictionless. you will never have to hear or even think of me again.
Matt thinks again. this guy doesn't seem to tough
Matt: alright I can ta-
Ares instantly punches a hole through him, bringing him back to life in the real world. Matt coughs up blood as he looks up and see Fox kneeling aside him
Fox: Hey kid, you alright? I used a sealing spell to bring you back.
Eren is hiding behind Fox. as Matt gets up, he feels... different. like he can actually feel emotion unlike before.
Matt: Yeah I'm fine. you guys good too?
Fox: Yeah don't worry about it. lets get you home
Matt: Aw man Mom's gonna be mad.
He says laughing. This frightened Eren. She has never heard Matt laugh so genuinely. something happened...

When Aella found out, she was devastated. the only thing she had left to love was almost taken from her. and worse of all, he's acting entirely different
Aella: WHAT DID YOU DO MAXWELL?!
Fox: Look, it went wrong, however he's fine
Matt: yeah mom, calm down. it isn't his fault
Aella: go to your room Matt.
Matt: Man... do I have to?
Aella: JUST GO!
Matt walked up the stairs disappointed. as Aella and fox argued, they forgot about one person who witnessed everything. Eren.
Eren: Why is he acting like this... its like he has a soul now... and every time I look at him, I feel like he's going to attack me next... I can hear him laughing in my head still...
She manifest an energy knife
Eren: I just want to grab him and-
She stabs a wall, which alerts Fox and Aella
Aella: YOU TAUGHT YOUR OWN CHILD HOW TO USE WEAPONS?!
Fox: I didn't teach her tha-
Aella: GET OUT AND NEVER COME BACK! YOU TOOK MY BEST FRIEND, MY HUSBAND, AND ALMOST KILLED MY SON!
Fox: Lets go Eren...
Eren walks with Fox, still crying. she started to close her eyes more often to make sure she nevers sees that damned face. But Aella took it harder. she decided to try and cure Matt... but she needed subjects. So one day, she went to an orphanage and took a brother and a sister... and the rest is history...

Eren: and thats basically what happened
Eren said as she wrapped up the story of Matt to everyone.
X: Wait... He thought he could take on Ares?
Saike: That seemed like a bad idea on his part.
Eren: look he just died, and he didn't think gods were real at that point
Violet: So thats how he got it...
X: wait... you told us how he got Ares, how did he die though...
Eren: Alright then, let me tell you that story next

Matt and his crew walked up to olympus one day to participate in a tournament. Violet, Eren, Spark, and Mercury were cheering in the distance as matt got ready to fight his opponent.
Violet: You got this hon!
She kisses him on the cheek as he headed in. Matt waved as he headed into the Arena. his opponent? The Judge.
The judge: ...We meet again
Matt: ...
The Judge: I'll have you know, you could barely defeat me last time, so what makes you think you'd win this time?
Matt: ... who... are you again?
The judge sighs.
The Judge: You'll know after you're dead.
Athena, the god hosting this tournament counts down
Athena: 5, 4, 3, 2 ,1, FIGHT!
And they were off! Matt rushes in from the side to flank him while the judge just... stands there. Huh, odd. Matt lands a blow that send the judge flying, but the same amount of force punches Matt back out of nowhere.
Matt: Oh right... the karma guy...
Matt is trying to think of a strategy to beat this menace. but someone gives him some advice
Ares: hey
matt: What?
Ares: The idea to this guy is simple, all you have to do is kill him before you kill yourself.
Matt: what?
Ares: Just go for it. I'm sure this will help
Matt sighs, as he dashes at the judge, who is wielding a knife. as the two clash, Matt gets ready to land the finishing blow and kills the Judge.
Matt: ...I... I did it...
Ares: ...wow.
He smirks
Ares: You actually fell for it
Matt suddenly gets killed the exact same way the judge did as. Violet screams in horror from the crowd as Eren, Spark, and Mercury stand up.
Eren: What the hell happened?
Spark: darn it... it was a situational awakening! It works after death!
Violet is crying over the dead body as Athena is ready to announce the stalemate but...
Matt gets up

Athena: Oh! It looks like Matt is still up! give him a round of applause for-
Matt: ...Matt?
The crowd goes silent as matt limps up from the ground
Matt: That...
He brushed his hair forward as his eyes glow bright red
Ares: Is not my name.
Athena immediately recognizes Ares.
Athena: EVERYONE EVACUATE NOW-
Ares: Kneel.
As Ares says this, everyone falls straight towards the ground.
Eren tries to get up but Ares turns around
Ares: is that- OH IT IS!
Eren: oh no...
Ares walks up and puts his hand on her chin to make her look up
Ares: Remember me? We had a hell of a time back then...
Eren: Get the hell out of my face.
Ares: Now now... is that any way to treat your new god?
behind him, Zeus runs up and tries to attack but Ares backhands him and kicks him into the corner
Ares: PEOPLE OF OLYMPUS! YOUR HEAD GOD HAS FALLEN! NOW... it's time for my era.
all the gods hesitantly kneel as Ares rips off Matts jacket and laughs like a maniac. The 4 mortals try and leave, as violet grabs Matts jacket, Ares tries to grab her, but mercury steps in the way and catches her instead.
Ares: hm... I guess this shall suffice.
Ares teleports away as the mortals run. Spark, Eren, and Violet made it out but... they can tell everything is going to be different after this.

Eren: So yeah...
She says wrapping up.
X: wait wait wait... so the girl I saw when i was fighting Ares was Mercury... Violet and you are here... where's Spark
Violet: Oh he's working at a maid cafe.
Saike, X, and Ruby: ...
Fox: Hey guys? You're going to want to see this!

They walk towards the Tv as Ares makes an announcement
Ares: It has come to my knowledge that some gods are rooting against me with the mortals... so I decided something. 3 days from now, you can storm New Olympus and try and dethrone me. It's only optional, so you don't have to. but this is your only opportunity.
The broadcast ends
Ruby: ...whats his gimmick?
Eren: what?
Ruby: When I was with him, he would always think carefully about his actions... however this seemed brash
Violet: I think he's trying to make us come to Olympus so he can wipe us all out at the same time. thats the only reason
X: Yeah, only a stupid guy would run into olympus without a plan.
Everyone stares at X
X: IT WAS ONE TIME!
Saike: we should come up with a plan and lay low for now
Eren: Yeah. and maybe I can go out and find Spark
everyone agreed to this idea. however Ares knew this was happening.
Ares: hm... what would motivate them to come here...? They will think this is a trap so they would be cautious... Oh I know...
Ares snaps his fingers as Venus gets called towards him
venus: You asked for me, Master~
Ares: venus...
he points at Mercury, who is in a cage
Ares: Her
Venus: With pleasure, master~
Ares readies a camera as venus opens the door to Mercurys cage...
