He discontinued administration of aspirin to Alexei. Alexei had the “Royal blood” disease of haemophilia. Haemophilia is excessive bleeding, caused by low levels of coagulants in the blood. Aspirin is an anticoagulant. So, he did at least one thing of therapeutic value. It didn’t actually cure the haemophilia, but it refused it. At the time, medical doctors were still leeching some patients as treatment, so it’s unlikely that a medical doctor would have even thought of that treatment. Medical doctors had, in fact, ordered the aspirin.
