On a semi-related side note, I was just watching a docu on PBS about Little Richard, and of course every little thing he keeps yapping about how he was the originator and everybody stole whatever from him and blah blah blah and blah blah blah, and each time he said this I kept yelling, "ESQUERITA!" because, ironically, and for those who don't know, Esquerita was Little Richard before Little Richard was Little Richard. Totally ripped him off, from hair and makeup to piano stylings to all them whoots.
tbf, Esquerita himself always denied that, saying that they were really just contemporaries, friendly competition, they got past whatever friction was between them, that type of thing. But he was just being humble, whereas Richard was taking credit for everybody else for what he himself had stolen.
Anyways, after hating on Richard for an hour a half, I find out at the end that he actually had passed away in 2020, and I didn't even know about it. And now I kind of feel bumbed.
I used to be a fan when I was a younger Modda, but his musical chairs with with his "Rock and Roll" originator, then Rock and Roll is a sin, then guess what folks, he's of whatever orientation, then he's a preacher, then he's a Rock and Roller again, then it's a sin again, and yadda yadda yadda repeat plus I had also found out about the Esquerita thing in a nice big article in a fanzine whose name I forget, I got turned off by the '80s.
And that is that.
