"Well, my house is ready, so I'll be going. Thanks for having me." Inkmatas stated from the doorway.
"..." She was met with silence.
"Not even a goodbye? Really?"
"..." 401 didn't even look at the witch standing in her [poor excuse for a] doorway.
"...Whatever..." Inkmatas left.
--
In all honestly, it was kind of awkward not having Inkmatas in her "house". Even though 401 didn't want Inkmatas to stay over--lest her feelings get a hold of her--she liked having someone to talk to sometimes.
Her thoughts were startled by loud noises coming from outside.
They... sounded like... explosions.
Her vision blurred, her heart raced. Another attack?! She could've sworn their nuclear factories were bombe--
No no no. This is the war, it's fine, it's probably something else, calm down. She covered her ears in a desperate attempt to drown out the noise. Curse her great hearing!
It just kept getting louder and louder. With every sound came hundreds of horrible memories.
The noises suddenly stopped, but her heart didn't. She heard too much. 401 was lost in memory.
-
She knew this place. It was where a cannonball just barely missed her... and squashed her brother-in-arms instead. The moment replayed right in front of her, having to witness the blood splatter once more. Her heart quickened.
Almost instantly, she found herself staring at a destroyed outpost littered with bodies.
401's anxiety and fear kept growing, and every time it did, she saw another horrifying scene.
She couldn't take it. She wanted to cry, to escape. But she was too petrified to move or do anything.
