A much better question I would ask, why would gays want to celebrate pride in the miserable cold month of January in minus double digit temperatures? Almost nobody wants to celebrate anything. Also this winter pride event that's "near" Toronto is actually in a ski resort that's a two hour drive away from the city. Why would anyone want to celebrate pride in the most miserably cold month of the year, a long drive away from the city, having the worst time driving on the icy highway? Maybe the gays should just be content with the entire month of June they are privileged to have to celebrate their sexuality and not than torture themselves driving on an icy highway where they are likely to have an accident to a ski resort in sub zero double digit temperatures in the most miserably cold month of the year just rub their sexuality in people's faces. And besides, it does make a lot more sense to wait until the summer to have such a celebration, people are a lot more likely to get outside to festivals, the festivals are in the city center so you don't have to drive far at all and can even take public transit.
