they were the superpower of europe from 1794 and before, to 1815. Even in WWI they were a great power. The trench warfare was hard. And yo are forgeting the way the germans won france. They encirceld the best troops of the third french republic. The rest of the french army was recruits who had no war experince. So the germans steamrolled over them new people and took france
