This reminds me in fourth grade one of my friends that I wasn’t really friends with then was threatening to stab my other friend with the pencil “lead” so I went 🤓 mode and said “it’s actually graphite”

It was originally lead, a long time ago, but because lead is highly poisonous, the material of pencils was switched to graphite.

And yet, it has certainly maintained the name
Definitely a bit confusing

Also, fun fact about pencils is the wood they are made out of is treated with flame retardant chemicals to prevent kids from lighting them on fire. And lets be honest, we have all tried to start a fire by rubbing pencils together.

Now THAT is a true statement we can all agree upon.
